Five events, two plays running and three farmers markets, and no rocket launch to plan around. Here is what is happening in Brevard County from Thursday, September 17 through Sunday, September 20, 2026, with the addresses, the times and what it costs.
Is there a rocket launch in Brevard County this week?
No. There are no launches scheduled at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station or Kennedy Space Center between September 14 and 20, 2026. Crew-13 is waiting on a Dragon repair, and Amazon Leo does not have a date assigned yet.
If you are new here, that will make more sense in a month. Launch schedules are part of how people in Brevard plan a week. You check before you commit to dinner on the beach. You learn that a scrubbed launch is a raincheck and not a letdown. Some weeks the sky is the main event. This week it is not, so everything else gets room to breathe.
Launch dates and windows can fluctuate. Confirm launch specs before venturing out. Schedule information from rocketlaunch.org.
What is there to do in Brevard County this weekend?
Five things worth circling, Thursday through Sunday. Four of the five are free.
K-9 Copper’s retirement party
Thursday, September 17 at 5:00 p.m. Cocoa Riverfront Park, Cocoa. Free.
A working police dog is finishing his last shift, and the public is invited to see him off. Family friendly. If you have kids, this is the kind of thing they remember a lot longer than you expect them to.
Free Concert Series: The Bella Donna Project
Friday, September 18 at 6:00 p.m. Wickham Park, 2500 Parkway Drive, Melbourne. Free.
Wickham Park carries a large share of what happens in this part of the county, from concerts to festivals to the Thursday farmers market. Bring a chair. Get there before the good spots go.
International Coastal Cleanup
Saturday, September 19 at 9:00 a.m. Ted Moorhead Lagoon House, Palm Bay. Free.
The Indian River Lagoon is a big part of why people end up living where they live around here. This is the morning you get to do something about it instead of reading about it. Cleanups like this one run every year and they always need more hands than they get.
Pokemania
Saturday, September 19 at 2:00 p.m. Titusville Public Library, Titusville. Free. Listed for ages 6 to 17.
Trading, playing, and a room full of kids who are into the same thing. The public libraries in this county run better free programming than most people realize, and this is a good example of it.
Women’s Fall Into Brunch
Sunday, September 20 at 11:00 a.m. Hook and Eagle Tavern, 2300 Clubhouse Drive, Rockledge. Sixteen dollars for the reservation. Food and drinks are ordered and paid separately at the table.
Hosted by The Bond Maker. Reservations are required, so this one is a call-ahead rather than a walk-up. Most people come on their own, which is rather the point of it.
What plays are showing in Brevard County theaters this week?
Two of Brevard’s four community theaters have shows running this week, and one of them is closing soon.
Come From Away at Titusville Playhouse
301 Julia Street, Titusville. Friday at 8:00 p.m., Saturday at 2:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m., Sunday at 2:00 p.m.
The story of a small town in Newfoundland that takes in thousands of stranded airline passengers when the skies close. It is funnier than that description suggests and it will still get you.
Steel Magnolias at Surfside Playhouse
301 Ramp Road, Cocoa Beach. Friday at 8:00 p.m., Saturday at 2:00 p.m., Sunday at 2:00 p.m. Closes September 27.
Six women, one Louisiana beauty shop, and the friendships that hold them up. If you want to see this one, this weekend or next is the entire window.
Historic Cocoa Village Playhouse and Melbourne Civic Theatre are both dark this week. Both open new shows on October 9.
Where was the first play in Cocoa Beach staged?
In a fire house. In April 1959, a group called the Surfside Players formed, and that May they put on The Moon is Blue at the Cocoa Beach fire house, because that is what was available.
They broke ground on a building of their own on January 6, 1963, and opened it that April. It seats 250. A Youth Players program came along in 1979, a playwriting contest in 2001, and an improv troupe in 2013.
You know that group today as Surfside Playhouse, and Steel Magnolias is on that stage this weekend. Sixty-seven years in the same town, starting from a borrowed fire house, is a fairly good argument for supporting community theater while it is still here.

Where can you pick your own herbs in Brevard County?
Behind The Market at Rockledge Gardens, 2153 US-1 in Rockledge. There is a u-pick herb garden with thirteen herbs planted in raised beds. You clip what you want and pay by the bag, three dollars for a small bag and five for a large one.

As of September 12, 2026, what was in the ground: chamomile, cilantro, Cuban oregano, fennel, French lavender, garlic chives, Italian parsley, lemon balm, lemon thyme, mint, parsley, thyme, and winter tarragon.
The garden is open every day from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Produce days run Wednesday through Sunday. They ask that you clip mindfully, which means taking a little from several plants rather than stripping one. Phone is 321-636-7662.
Bring your own scissors if you have a pair you like, and go early in the day. A warm afternoon in a herb bed is a warm afternoon in a herb bed.
Which farmers markets are open in Brevard County this week?
- Crisafulli Groves Farmers Market, 5515 N Courtenay Parkway, Merritt Island. Saturdays 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The market supports Life Recaptured.
- Brevard County Farmers Market, Wickham Park Regional Pavilion, 2500 Parkway Drive, Melbourne. Thursdays 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. Free admission, free parking, and SNAP dollars are matched.
- Nordic Acres Farm, 2650 Grant Road, Grant. A preorder farm rather than a walk-up market. Sourdough ordered by Tuesday for Friday pickup, microgreens ordered by Sunday night. Cash only. Call first at 321-723-0653.
Call ahead on any of them. A good weekend can empty a field by noon, and there is nothing sadder than driving forty minutes for tomatoes that sold out at ten in the morning.
Is there school in Brevard County on Friday, September 25?
No. Friday, September 25, 2026 is a student holiday and teacher workday. There is no school districtwide.
Challenger 7 Elementary in Port St. John runs on a different calendar and starts intercession on Monday, September 21.
School dates from brevardschools.org.
What is it like to live in Brevard County?
This is the question people ask me after they have spent a weekend here. Not what is happening this week, but what the other fifty-one weeks look like.
They look a lot like the list above. Brevard County runs seventy-two miles from Mims down to Micco, which means your weekend is as long or as short a drive as you want it to be. There is a lagoon that people show up on a Saturday morning to take care of. Four community theaters, one of which started in a fire house. A farmers market on a Thursday afternoon where the SNAP dollars get matched. A garden that lets you walk in and cut your own dinner.
The rockets are real and they are wonderful and they are not the whole thing. The whole thing is a county where a police dog’s retirement draws a crowd.

If you are thinking about moving to Brevard County, or moving across town within it, that part is my job. I work across the whole county, from Titusville down through Melbourne, Palm Bay and the beaches. Reach out any time.
